It is surrounded by mountains and sea, thus forming an autonomous territorial unit with particularities in the natural environment since it combines sea, mountain and a fertile plain crossed by the river Acheron. Its area is 197,598 acres and its population amounts to 8,914 inhabitants. The combination of sea, plain and mountain gives the residents of the area the opportunity to work according to their place of residence, mainly with agriculture, cultivating products such as corn, cotton and clover, in combination with fishing or mountain animal husbandry.Modern crops are grown by mechanical means, while the cultivation of the plain, which is now irrigated by reservoirs supplied by electric pump stations, is also in progress.
